Part three of Tag-along Tour 2017 – From the Murray to the Outback

Part three covers from White Cliffs to Bourke

Concerts eight and nine were performed at White Cliffs.  The first of these was at an underground motel.  As the pictures show the evening started with a pizza, pasta and salad meal in the underground dining room.  Very few of us had stayed in an underground residency before and it proved to be an intriguing experience.

Here are two pictures of the corridors in the motel.

Unfortunately, our timing at White Cliffs was not desirable in that we arrived in a very unusual cold snap.

As you can see in the picture on the right, Laurel was all wrapped up against the cold.

A description of ‘very cold’ would be more accurate as our entire tag-along group wrapped up against the chill.

Let’s be honest, it wasn’t cold or very cold, it was very, very bloody cold!

Our second concert was held in the grounds behind the pub.  This was a fund-raiser for the local primary school and proved very successful both as entertainment and as a fund-raiser.

Concert number ten was held on the banks of the Darling River at Wilcannia

This was a superb caravan park with facilities second to none, lush green grass which is a rarity in caravan parks in far western NSW and wonderful views of the Darling.

A fire to keep us warm.

Glen and Shirley enjoying their trifle dessert.

Some of the tag-along members enjoying the concert.

Graham Rodger and some of his band named by the tour – ‘The Jolly Rodgers’.

Laurel Calvert

Trevor Tolton

Rodney Springer

The tour is fast coming to an end as we gather together at a Cobar club for concert number eleven.

The smiles from Colin, Graham and Rodney were reflective of the entire night.

Unfortunately this concert was to be the last for Laurel and Alfie as They were heading home to Bairnsdale in Victoria ready to fly out to Europe in a few days time.

Laurel has been a member of the entertainment crew on all four tag-alongs, a wonderful and very popular guest artist.  She will be sorely missed.

Graham thanks Laurel (aka Judith Durham) for her tremendous contribution to the success of all four tags.

As the saying goes, what you miss on the merry-go-round you pick up on the swings!

It was with remorse that we waved goodbye to Laurel and Alfie, but it was our pleasure to welcome Kel-Anne for the rest of our tour.  Often referred to as the little dynamo, four foot eleven of talent, effervescence and great entertainment.  Kel-Anne too was to prove very popular with our audiences.

There is no doubt that the Commonwealth Games Committee on the Gold Coast could do well to learn from the committee who organised these games.

Event number one was responsible for a new dance craze hitting Bourke (the balloon stomp)

Event number two – The Thong Toss

Event number three, something Australia has world ranking in, - ‘standing around watching’.

After many strenuous hours of Ukulele lessons throughout the tour, individuals were presented with a graduation certificate after which they displayed their many talents with a great concert.

Every group has them. The Supervisor!  Graham, dressed as the foreman, played his part admirably.

Cheers!
